Future of Flying

For the environments and terrains, I worked with World Machine and Terragen, two advanced landscape-generation tools that allow for highly detailed, naturalistic terrain design. These software packages enable realistic erosion simulations, nuanced terrain shaping, and robust shading systems, helping to create landscapes that feel both expansive and believable.

Terragen was also used for the creation of volumetric cloud formations. Its physically based atmosphere and cloud systems offer an exceptional level of realism, making it an ideal choice for this project. The combination of detailed terrains and dynamic skies helped ground the aircraft concept within convincing, immersive aerial scenarios.

I was commissioned by Terra Mater magazine to envision the future of flying vehicles and aircraft design for their cover story. The focus of the project was to create a concept airplane that feels futuristic yet credible and tangible—grounded in plausible technology rather than pure science fiction. Particular attention was given to form, materials, and functionality to ensure the design could realistically exist within a near-future context.

The finalized aircraft concept was then integrated into a series of aerial scenarios throughout the magazine article, allowing readers to experience the design in different environments and use cases. These visual narratives helped situate the aircraft within a broader vision of future aviation and mobility.
