Innerversum

Before Ava begins meditating, the world around her is emphasized and depicted through shaky lines, restlessness, and a sense of hectic motion. As her inner world becomes calmer, these lines gradually settle and take on a more composed, serene quality.

Inner turbulence is visualized as a chaotic tangle of spirals and tangled, unstable lines. Conflict situations can take on a jagged, rough, saw-blade-like character. Paranoid thoughts can be represented as scribbles that form into dark silhouetted figures, suggesting distorted or faulty pattern recognition. As Ava is able to parse her thoughts and achieve clarity, the lines gain colour, distinction and shape.

Following illustrations are part of visual development from a proof of concept project of an unrealized mental well-being app. The concept centers on our protagonist, Ava as we follow her personal development and accompany her through the highs and lows of her journey toward inner and outer self-realization.

It is an intimate narrative, and a “handwritten,” expressive visual style is particularly well suited to it. This expressive, loose yet deliberate approach aligns with the workshop-like character of the project and reinforces the work-in-progress nature of personal growth and self-development.
